I can't believe it's already Thursday. The week has slipt away with the blink of an eye. I have been working sometimes from 6am til 10 at night on Girls Night Out. The website should be "live" by tomorrow. I'm learning the process as I go and have 2 great web designers that diligently work with me and push me to present the best product I can. At first I was ready to "let it go - as is" but they begged to differ with me. And, I have to say, in the end, I totally agreed with what they were saying. Once the site is flipped live - I hope you will all agree that Girls Night Out looks fun, inviting and is something you'll be excited to be a part of. As I try to learn something new everyday --- I will add website building/editing, photo editing to my list of accomplishments for the week.
Also this week I put the finishing touches on this months Contacts & Compacts event. I sound like a broken record, but every month it floors me how many new faces come and join this group. Despite the nasty weather, they came. It blows my mind that the whole concept of building network group for women - from all career paths - started solely in my head just over a year ago. While I was on the phone with my friend Gayle the name Contacts & Compacts popped into my head - and POOF the rest just unfolded. It really struck me last night, for the first time, exactly what I had accomplished simply by using the gifts of perseverance, passion and determination.
Our Halloween theme last night invited everyone to "come as their career". I knew that the majority of people wouldn't dress up - especially those coming for the first time. Honestly I had to laugh to myself about what the first-timers must be thinking as this dark-haired woman with a mustache approached them to welcome them to the group. I mean, what kind of network group dares to do stuff like this???? Several people did "come as their career". We had a chef and kitchen designer, artist, sign language expert, tarot reader, multi-tasker, community service projects. Gayle dressed as the myriad of jobs she undertakes sporting a white lab coat (she works part time for a doctor), paint brushes in the pocket of the jacket (she's very artistic and does most of my graphic design) and a camera around her neck (she loves photography). I, on the other hand definately stood out with my black beret, mustache and megaphone as I pronounced myself as the Director of Fun. Is that what I am? My husband always used to call me that because I'm always in the middle of producing something that is fun and brings enjoyment to others. Many people complimented me on the event and said they had a great time and will definitely back again and bring friends. Others applauded my "emcee" abilities on the microphone. I don't know how to explain it, but I am so comfortable speaking off the top of my head in front of a crowd. It's kind of ironic that I spent 20 years in radio - but was never on the air except for being the voice in some commercials. The words just flow. I truly bring my personality to the crowd. I add in a twist of my sense of humor. People really seem to like my style. What a feeling when you say something funny and the crowd laughs. Or when you say something serious and you can just tell you have their attention. I can't describe the feeling it brings me - but it's all good! The best part, I'm not nervous or unsure...I'm just me. Who better to be?
As I stood in front of the largest crowd we've had. I realized that because of Contacts & Compacts I have created an entire room full of people who gather together once a month and build not only business connections, but friendships. A year ago 99% of everyone in that room I didn't know at all. Yet last night I could recall their names and many of their occupations. We have all become friends. And everyone is always welcome and accepted to group. Women really enjoy coming to this. What a great feeling to know that a simple idea can turn into something wonderful.
Today I invite you to step back and look at your "network". How many lives touch you? How many lives do you touch? There are people all around you, and you know what...they're on your side. Each of us has a network and the ability to grow that network. As I've said before...it's as easy as opening your eyes. As we were told in childhood just....Stop. Look. Listen.
Enjoy the day!

Saturday night at the Flagpole Radio Cafe
Happy Sunday everyone.
Today's weather is a welcome turnaround from last night's torrential downpours. But it was well worth getting caught in the rain as I ran to my car after an awesome night of blue grass music and comedy at the Flagpole Radio Cafe at the Edmond Town Hall in Newtown. My mother-in-law and I make it a date every time the Cafe performs. Last night my sister-in-law joined us for the first time and was blown away by it! I love my special "dates" with my mother-in-law. We all had pizza and salad before the show, conversation abound around the dinner table. It was a family dinner, and was wonderful! And let me tell you...she made the BEST homemade blueberry pie I've ever had. Delicious! We did the dishes and headed out for the show. This extremely talented group performs 3-4 times per year and last night kicked off their 2nd season. The music is terrific. Special guest artist, Katie Wilson sang. Her voice is absolutely beautiful and pleasing to the ears. The group Hoe accompanied her on stage. They did a tribute to Mary Travers at the end and had the whole audience singing "Leaving on a jet plane". Very moving. The talent on stage is amazing - guitars, banjos, harmonicas, piano, mandolin, bass and vocals. There's comedy skits too. The stage bursts with talent and there's a true synergy between all of them. The whole evening is very affordable and enjoyable. I highly recommend it. December 5th is the next one. Visit newtownartscommission.org ---
FLAGPOLE RADIO CAFE is my entertainment event pick of the week!
Back to the idea factory in the morning. Girls Night Out is going to be the best one yet! Unbelievable momentum is building this event. Did you know events build themselves? It's true. They morph right before your eyes. My job is to take what's presented to me and produce it into something people will enjoy. I can't tell you how much fun it's going to be. Ladies, you're going to love all the shopping, pampering, dancing and prizes. Speaking of prizes...stay tuned for a BIG prize announcement coming soon. The website should be live tomorrow - thanks to all the hard work of my buddy Malin at Thristy Lizards.com! I'll keep you posted!
On my "reinvention" journey side of life...
Help is always on the way. Don't sweat it...cause help will always be provided to you, no matter what your circumstance. People will enter your life just when you need them to. Some stay for a while, sometimes only briefly, others are lifelong - with you through it all. Many times, the act of doing business has given me unbelievable friendships. Two new people entered my life this week. I spent time with Kristen and Karie from Kristen Jensen photography. Talk about talent. I looked at framed pics on the wall and flipped through a portfolio - WOW! I even had a photo session - hence the pic on my profile. They are both WONDERFUL people and tremendously gifted. Each special person "at your table" plays a different roll, but rest assured, they've been placed in your life for a reason Each one a blessing.
My friend Rocco suggested I read the book "Think and Grow Rich". Please understand, I had never heard of the book before. I know, I know, it's been around for what, like a hundred years?!...but I very recently began reading. No, I didn't just learn to read...but just starting taking an interest in it. I just finished the book. It made me realize that all but 1 of the attributes they mention in the book I already possess and have possessed for quite some time. One part of the book the author speaks about success (however you define success) coming to most people after they've hit 40 in part because you achieve a higher level of "awareness". Approaching my "mid-40 mark" I have to agree that a new world is being revealed to me. You might say the book gave me a "shot of self-confidence and esteem" that has laid dormant in my soul. Why are we so critical of ourselves? Just as you should always find the good in others...search for the same from within. Why do we make ourselves are toughest clients? Perhaps it's because you're not only your toughtest client, but your biggest. Once you land yourself as a "client" and treat yourself as a client, the flood gates open and great things really start to rock & roll! Here's the cool part (I wish everyone could understand and appreciate this because it's there for us all.) When you embrace each day with your eyes and ears open to the world you see a completely different place. There are so many things that surround you. So many gifts to be opened. You just need to SEE them. They're right in front of you. I really try to see opportunity in everything. I hope you'll do the same. Today is a gift...that's why they call it the present. Now go unwrap the day!

I've officially arived
It only took me 9 years, but I feel like today, with the creation of my blog...I've officially arrived to the 21st century. I'm excited to have an outlet to express my thoughts and ideas. Always the creative type, I'm loaded with ideas and have reached a point in life where I'm pursuing them - 1 by 1. Let's call it my "business bucket list".
I consider myself an inventor, but I have no proto-types, no patents - well forgive me, I did actually get a patent once on a concept that was ahead of it's time and now, it's obsolete. I haven't invested my life savings into the "gadget that will change the universe", no, I invent marketing concepts. Advertising slogans. Practical products. I invent ideas for different businesses.
Most importantly though, with the start of this blog....I'm actually sharing my road as I "re-invent" myself. We've all heard "Today is the beginning of the rest of your life" and my re-invention begins today. Writing a blog is like exposing yourself to the entire world, and then waiting to see if, in fact, anyone has an interest in what you have to say. I want to share my successes and failures. You'll get to know me, my sense of humor, projects I'm in the midst of completing and my take on life - both in business and personal. If you choose to follow -- great -- welcome aboard the mother ship of invention. If I write to "me, myself and I" that's okay too.
So here's to all my soon to be met "blogging friends" and "the ideas that will flow as I blog to grow". You're never gonna know what I'll blog about next. I have to say it takes a little bit of courage to hit that "publish post" button cause there's no turning back. But what the heck..you only go around once so "publish post" away! Cheers
